What does the Safeguarding Adults Level 1 course cover?
This course provides designated safeguarding leads and referrers with an overview of how to respond to potential and actual safeguarding issues.
When you have completed the course, you will understand the frameworks and legislation for safeguarding vulnerable adults. You will also know how to respond to the concerns of service users and their families and how to develop strategies to protect those who do not give consent.
Safeguarding Adults Level 2 expands on the knowledge gained from the Level 1 Safeguarding Adults course. After recapping the six principles of safeguarding vulnerable adults, you will next learn about assessing the mental capacity of those in your care. This section of the course also covers interventions and how you should proceed if you disagree with a service user’s decisions.
Under the Care Act 2014, local authorities have a duty to advocate for those in their care, and this duty is covered within Safeguarding Adults Level 2. You’ll learn about the importance of safeguarding advocacy and the role played by an IMCA (Independent Mental Capacity Advocate).
How carers should handle potential cases of abuse is initially covered in the Safeguarding Adults Level 1 course and we return to this topic in more depth in Level 2. Examples of safeguarding issues discussed in the course include record keeping, assessing significant harm and the difference between poor practice and possible abuse.
Supervision and decision making are important for good safeguarding practice and so you will be trained in the important principles behind both of these. Designated safeguarding leads will often take part in case conferences, review meetings and Safeguarding Adults Reviews (SAR) so this course covers what will be required of you in these situations.
You’ll also learn about the various stages of the enquiry process and what role is played by designated safeguarding leads in this process.
How is the Safeguarding Adults Level 2 course assessed?
It will take around two hours to complete the Safeguarding Adults Level 2 online course, which is followed by an online multiple choice exam.
