Who is Safeguarding Adults Level 3 suitable for?

Safeguarding Adults Level 3 covers the competencies required in assessing and evaluating the needs of adult service users where there may be safeguarding concerns.

What topics does the Safeguarding Adults Level 3 course cover?

This course is designed to cover the competencies that are required in staff who assess and evaluate concerns around adult safeguarding.

Completing this course will allow you to identify the signs of different types of abuse, document concerns and communicate effectively with adults at risk. You will understand how to undertake risk or harm assessments and contribute to inter-agency assessment, and will also be able to formulate and communicate effective care plans.

The Safeguarding Adults Level 3 course begins by reinforcing the six principles of safeguarding (Care Act 2014), the different forms of abuse and the importance of person-centred care. The course then moves on to supervision and decision making, and their role in creating a high-quality care setting. All of these topics are explored in more detail at this level than in the Safeguarding Adults Level 2 course. 

A positive risk approach can allow for open discussion and works on a more person-centred basis. While many courses focus on risk assessment and management, the Care Act 2014 states that health and social care should work towards developing a culture of positive risk taking and risk establishment. When risk leads to harm, the decision makers in a care setting must be able to defend their decision and the reasoning behind them. Our course covers the important topics of significant harm and defensible decisions as well as who needs to be notified in the event of harm. It also considers the appropriate mindset required for this vital role.

As a designated safeguarding lead, you will often be required to take part in planning meetings and enquiries, which are covered in depth by the Safeguarding Adults Level 3 course. Reviews are an important part of adult safeguarding and offer a valuable opportunity to learn, so you’ll learn about the different types of review along with the processes involved. You may also be involved in Safeguarding Adults Boards (SABs), which are required under the Care Act 2014 to oversee and coordinate the work of agencies involved in safeguarding within the local area.

Information handling and sharing within health and social care settings is covered by various pieces of legislation, so you’ll learn important guidance such as when confidentiality can be overridden and how to handle requests for information.

You’ll also learn about the process for assessing mental capacity and receive useful guidance on report writing for designated safeguarding leads.

How is the Safeguarding Adults Level 3 course assessed?

Completing the Safeguarding Adults Level 3 online course will involve around three hours’ study. You will then need to complete the online multiple-choice exam which assesses your understanding of the course.

The exam has a 70% pass mark and unlimited exam resits are included in your course fee. Once you have passed the end-of-course exam, you will be presented with a free certificate to download or print.
