What topics does the Safeguarding Children Level 1 course cover?

This course provides a broad overview of child safeguarding and the statutory duty

of all care staff to safeguard children.

Completing this course will enable you to define key terms related to child safeguarding such as child, young person and abuse. You will be able to explain who is responsible for child safeguarding and your own role in safeguarding children. You will also learn how child safety and wellbeing can be impacted by factors such as their parents’ physical and mental health, and the local procedures and sources of support associated with child safeguarding and child protection.

The course first introduces some of the key concepts, definitions and principles of child safeguarding before covering the relevant parts of UK legislation for safeguarding. It then discusses who is responsible for child safeguarding and the roles played by local authorities and child safeguarding boards.

Workers in health and social care need to be aware of a number of different forms of maltreatment, including physical abuse, sexual abuse and neglect. The Safeguarding Children Level 1 course covers the most common forms of abuse, including the signs to look out for and the actions that carers should take. Topics such as radicalisation, FGM and child trafficking are also covered at an introductory level.

Instances of suspected child abuse or maltreatment need to be treated with great sensitivity. The Safeguarding Children Level 1 course will provide you with the knowledge you need to deal with these complex situations and create a safe environment in care settings.

How is the Safeguarding Children Level 1 course assessed?

Completing the Safeguarding Adults Level 3 online course will take around one hour of study. You will then need to complete the end of course online multiple choice exam.

A score of 70% is required to pass the exam and unlimited exam resits are included in the price of your course. Once you have successfully passed the exam, you will receive a free certificate to download or print.
