Fractures
It is sometimes difficult to tell if a person has a broken bone or joint. If you are in doubt, treat the injury as if it were broken. If the person is unconscious or bleeding heavily, you should first deal with these problems and dial 999 for an ambulance. If the person is conscious, you should prevent further pain or damage by keeping the fracture as still as possible until you can get them to the hospital either through ambulance or car. The person is in a lot of pain and in need of strong painkilling medicationn
It is obvious they have broken a legn
A bone is sticking out or at an odd anglen
Extremities become blue or white, or are numbn
You suspect they have an injured or broken backn
Do not give the casualty anything to eat or drink because they may need an anaesthetic when they reach hospital.
