Sleeping problems are a common side effect of Parkinsonu2019s or medications taken for Parkinsonu2019s. Not getting adequate sleep can make other issues such as depression, hallucinations, or delusions worse. People with Parkinsonu2019s are more prone to insomnia because of symptoms that disturb sleep, such as restless legs syndrome. Some routine changes can help with insomnia, such as:
Nocturnal akinesia (trouble turning over in bed), early morning dystonia (involuntary muscle contraction/spasm), parasomnias (nightmares, sleepwalking), sleep apnoea, and restless legs syndrome are also common symptoms. Many of these can be treated by medication.
