DVT Treatment

DVT is usually treated by anticoagulant medications that work to reduce the bloodu2019s ability to clot and prevent existing blood clots from getting bigger. Warfarin and heparin are the most commonly prescribed anti-coagulants. The patient may also be prescribed compression stockings to wear each day, which can help prevent complications and improve symptoms by encouraging circulation. Compression stockings can also reduce the risk of developing ulcers and prevent post-thrombotic syndrome, which is damage to leg issues caused by increased venous pressure. Stockings should be fitted professionally and worn for at least 2 years following a DVT.
