Medication and Healthcare Activities and Tasks
Some people may need assistance with activities such as filing fingernails or toenails, continence maintenance, or assistance with medication. You should not carry out any actions that are not covered by the individual’s care plan. Some key medication tasks include:
Ordering should be an efficient, quick process
A list of ordered medications should be checked against that received
Controlled drugs (CDs) must be stored in a locked cupboard, or may be kept by the individual if self-administeringu00a0
Be sure the right person receives the right dose of medication at the right time
Use the medicine administration record (MAR) to chart the administration of drugs, ensuring that records are clear
Medication must stay with the individual because it is their property. If they are transferred, medication must be transferred as well.u00a0
Unwanted medication should be returned to a pharmacy. Care homes must use a licensed waste management company.
