What is Diabetes?

Diabetes is a lifelong condition that causes an individual’s blood glucose (sugar) level to become too high. There are two primary types of diabetes – type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes. There are around 4.7 million people living in the UK with diabetes. By 2025, it is estimated that 5 million people will have diabetes in the UK. Type 2 diabetes is more common than type 1 diabetes, with around 90% of instances being type 2 in the UK.
