Person-Centred Values in Practice

Person-centred values include:

Every individual has their own needs, wishes, choices, beliefs, values, and identity. A one-size-fits-all approach to providing care and support doesn’t work.u00a0

Each person should be supported to make choices about their own care and support

Ensure an individual’s rights are respected, not only by yourself but by other people involved in their care

Each person has a right to a private space and time when they need it. Privacy includes the person’s private information and not talking to anyone about this information unless they give permission or it’s on a need-to-know basis to improve care and support.u00a0

Treating every individual in a dignified way that shows respect, values individuality, and their moral and ethical beliefs. Refrains from making assumptions about their needs.u00a0

Believing and showing someone that they have importance as an individual, that they have their own opinions and feelings even if you do not agree with them – you do respect them.u00a0

Working in partnership with the individual and their family, working alongside other workers. The key to a successful partnership is trust and good communication, respecting and valuing what others have to say.u00a0
