Types of Abuse and Neglect – Signs and Indicators

There are several types of abuse and neglect

A person’s body is being hurt or injured, or the inappropriate use of restrictive practices

A person’s funds and belongings are used without their permission

Sexual relationships or activities that the person does not consent to or want to be involved in

Failure to meet the basic needs of a person by providing food, fluids, warmth, medication, and hygiene support

Also known as psychological abuse, results in a person feeling worthless, unloved, or uncared for

Care and support are provided are focused on the needs of the organisation rather than focusing on the individual

A group or individual is being treated unequally because of characteristics identified in the Equality Act 2010
