Dementia affects each person differently depending on the type of dementia they have and the care and support they receive. The two most common types of dementia are:
Alzheimer's disease
In people with Alzheimer's disease, a bad protein develops in the brain and causes damage to the brain cells and their connections
Vascular dementia
Vascular dementia is caused by oxygen failing to get to the brain cells as a result of problems with the vascular system (blood supply)
