Proper Hand Hygiene Copy

Hands should be washed at the following times:

  • After removing gloves
  • After touching patient surroundings
  • After touching a patient
  • After body fluid exposure
  • Before touching a patient
  • Before a clean (aseptic) procedure
  • Before eating, drinking, or touching food
  • After going to the toilet
  • After blowing your nose
  • After coughing or sneezing into your hand or a tissue

Patients who are bed-bound should also have the opportunity to wash their hands before meals and after using the commode.
