Freezing

Freezing is when a person with Parkinsonu2019s will suddenly freeze when making a movement like walking. This typically happens when something interrupts a sequence of movements. Many patients describe this as feeling u2018stuck to the groundu2019, or that their top half can move while their bottom half cannot. This may also affect repetitive movements, like writing. Not being able to predict when freezing will occur causes anxiety or u2018start hesitationu2019 u2013 trouble beginning a movement. Freezing is more likely to occur when changing direction, turning, walking in crowded places, or walking through doors. Freezing is treated with medication and physical or occupational therapy.
