Managing Conflict and Difficult Situations

‘Behaviour that is challenging’, or conflict, happens because of distress or because needs are not being met. Factors that can cause distress include:

Pain, suffering, side effects of medication, substance misuse

Boredom, wanting social contact, need for control, not understanding what is being said, unable to properly communicate

Bad lighting, loud noises, barriers in the room to mobility

Being left out, loneliness
